School Meal Price Increase April 2023

We want to inform you that our caterer, Chartwells, has notified us that the price of school meals will increase. Normally, price increases occur at the start of the school year, but they have no choice but to apply them now.

Chartwells have advised that despite ongoing efforts to mitigate inflation through product swaps, negotiations with suppliers, and evolving the menu, the pressures have now risen to such an extent that they require a price increase.

As has been widely reported, the UK is facing inflation levels not seen for over 40 years. With record food inflation recorded March 2023 of 18%, these stark figures echo what school caterers continue to face having already seen increases on staple ingredients of 50 - 70% over the past year.

We remain committed to providing the highest quality and nutritious meals that meet the School Food Standards. Therefore, from 17th April 2023the cost of school meals for children in KS2 will increase from £2.35 to £2.55. There will be no change to Universal Infant Free School Meals for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

We want to assure you that the decision to take this action was not taken lightly. We will always continue to do all that we can to mitigate costs moving forward and provide you the best possible value for money.

Please be assured that we will continue to evaluate the meals to maintain their quality. We apologise for this increase and would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to check your child’s eligibility to receive Free School Meals.
